Department Introduction
Most people are familiar with the concept of “well-being” or have seen the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) label on many food products. These trends have emerged from changes in lifestyles that prioritize long-term health. In addition, following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, public concern about health risks from radiation increased, highlighting the importance of providing timely and accurate information on radiation, its health effects, and environmental monitoring. As a result, a society that places greater importance on health and the environment is emerging, and the School of Health & Environmental Convergence Science is dedicated to preparing for this future. Rather than simply focusing on “protecting humanity by improving the environment,” the division is preparing industries that will address human health issues in relation to environmental factors.
In the near future, health and environmental technologies, along with related industries, are expected to become leading sectors in Korea, with rapid growth anticipated. Many industries are directly connected to human health, and the School of Health & Environmental Convergence Science plays a key role in preparing professionals for these fields. In simple terms, the School of Health & Environmental Convergence Science studies and manages various environmental risk factors that may negatively impact human health. It trains professionals in health and environmental fields to monitor and prevent environment-related diseases and risks in advance. Its ultimate goal is to minimize health risks to the public, ensure the right to health, and contribute to building a future welfare state centered on environmental well-being.
