About the College
Convergence Research for a Healthier World College of Health Science, Korea University
Health Science is an applied studies that studies human health and the body. While medicine focuses on diagnosing and treating individual patients, Health Science addresses both individual and population health, striving to build healthier communities. In the 21st century, no academic field can solve the social problems we face without communicating with other disciplines.
Fields with distinct histories such as brain engineering, molecular biology, sociology, and psychology must break down barriers and begin meaningful dialogue. Through such collaboration, we can deepen our understanding of the human body and health, and explore ways for everyone to live healthier lives.
The College of Health Science at Korea University was established in 2006 in response to these evolving needs.
The College encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including medical science, which conducts biological research; biomedical engineering, which develops engineering solutions for health; environmental science, which analyzes and applies environmental factors; and health policy and management, which seeks to understand and address social and institutional challenges. Academic fields that were once considered disparate, yet are essential for health promotion, are all harmonizing to move toward the single goal of enhancing human health.
Therefore, the College of Health Science is, by its very nature, a college that pursues convergent studies.
The Korea University College of Health Science studies the human body and health across various levels—"from neuron to neighborhood" (from cells to the community)—and thus can present effective and holistic solutions to create a society where everyone can live healthily and happily.
In a world where developed nations are aging rapidly due to increased life expectancy while 25,000 people die of hunger every day on the other side of the globe, the Korea University College of Health Science intends to confront and navigate these challenges head-on.
Leaving past approaches behind, we will stand tall as a global leader in health science and a pioneer of holistic convergence studies. We ask for your continued interest and support.
